NSW Government Grants

The NSW Government has released three grant programs designed to help businesses understand and manage their energy use. You can apply for one or more grant.

Submeter Grants – get up to $20k (50% of project costs) to install new submeters in NSW businesses

If you already have submeters on site, you may be eligible for the Energy Performance Services Grant. Get up to $50k (50% of project costs) to implement energy monitoring software.

The Metering Plan Implementation Grant is designed for businesses with an approved metering and monitoring plan. This grant is designed for complex businesses.


Submeter Grants – up to $20k to install submeters

How much is available?

You can apply for up to $20,000, covering up to 50% of project costs.

What is covered by the grant?

  • The installation and commissioning of permanent submeters that are required for measuring energy performance.
  • hardware and integration with software required for energy monitoring. 

What is excluded from the grant?

  • Subscription to data management systems
  • Temporary meters / loggers
  • Re-commissioning of existing equipment
  • Metering on-site renewables
  • Submetering tenancies

Who is eligible?

  • Australian businesses with a NSW business site
  • Spend a minimum of $200,000 annually on energy bills at your NSW business site

When is the application closing date?

  • Applications are now open.
  • Application closing date: 31 March 2026 or earlier if funding is exhausted

Energy Performance Services Grant –
up to $50k to implement energy monitoring software

How much is available?

Milestone 1: up to $5,000 covering up to 50% of project costs to work with specialist consultants to develop an energy monitoring and analysis plan.

Milestone 2: up to $45,000 covering up to 50% of project costs to work with specialist consultants to implement the eligible activities in your approved plan.

Grant funds will be paid in one instalment once both milestones 1 and 2 are complete.

What is covered by the grant?

The Grant enables long-term improvements to energy performance by supporting planning, access to monitoring and analytics software, data integration, expert guidance and capability development.

Data Acquisition System

The Grant includes 2 milestones:

  • Milestone 1: develop the energy monitoring and analysis plan
  • Milestone 2: implement the energy monitoring and analysis plan. This can include:
    • energy monitoring software and analytics platforms
    • data integration and connectivity
    • technical guidance and support to improve energy performance through enhanced energy data monitoring and analysis

What is excluded from the grant?

  • New permanent or temporary metering
  • Subscription costs for established energy monitoring software and analytics platforms
  • Energy performance certification

Who is eligible?

  • Australian businesses with a NSW business site
  • have established submetering at the system or subsystem level
  • spend a minimum of $200,000 annually on energy bills

When is the application closing date?

  • Applications are now open.
  • Application closing date: 31 March 2026 or earlier if funding is exhausted

Metering Plan Implementation Grant – for complex businesses

How much is available?

$20k to $100k covering up to 50% of the eligible costs

What is covered by the grant?

Install the approved energy metering and monitoring solutions as recommended in your energy metering and monitoring plan.

  • Costs to install and commission permanent submeters that are required for measuring energy performance
  • Hardware and integration with software needed to monitor energy use
  • First-year subscription to a new data management system
  • Post-installation system handover and data onboarding support during the project.

What is excluded from the grant?

  • Temporary meters / loggers
  • Re-commissioning of existing equipment
  • Metering on-site renewables
  • Submetering tenancies
  • Subscription costs for established data management systems

Who is eligible?

  • Australian businesses with a NSW business site
  • spend a minimum of $200,000 annually on energy bills
  • have an up-to-date energy metering and monitoring plan and a metering schedule
  • have a complex energy system including,
    • multiple processes
    • multiple distribution systems
    • multiple energy types
    • multiple end users

When is the application closing date?

  • Applications are now open.
  • Application closing date: 31 March 2026 or earlier if funding is exhausted
